Yes We Can Racine

Inspired by President Obama's Call to Service

With input from several people, we have settled on a fundraising idea for the food bank: Laugh Your Cans Off.
Laugh Your Cans Off puts comics and would-be comics on stage for a good time while gathering food and funds for the local food bank. The event is planned for some time in January. Details will be coming forward soon.

How can you be involved?

  1. You can participate in one of three ways. You can simply show up, donate two cans of food and enjoy the show.
  2. If you make arrangements ahead of time, you can actually get up on stage and do 3 minutes of stand-up.
  3. If you don't want to simply be entertained, and yet you're not comfortable being the entertainment, you can help make arrangements. We need people to contact comics. We need party planners. We need committee members. If you're interested, simply reply to this message to indicate your interest.

You'll see more details in the coming weeks. In the mean time, reply below to let us know your level of interest.

This sounds a little similar to Snowdance, done at the Sixth Street Theatre starting in late January. They perform comedy skits, so it is different than stand-up.

You can count me in for whatever capacity is required.

I am interested in helping with this event. However I have worked with both the RCFB and several food pantries in Racine. I would like to see some division of "goods", so not all the items go directly to the Food Bank. I know the pantries will get their food from the RCFB but some should go directly to the pantries; they are the front line volunteers that directly provide the food to the consumers. However, the division of food should be left between the RCFB and the pantries themselves.
Perhaps it should be stressed that this is a fundraiser for the RCFB AND the food pantries, and invite the volunteers at the pantries into this whole process?

(Ah, I love snow dance!) I am interested in helping to organize this event. Are we trying to get unknown local comedians? Do we want a "headliner"?

This is the best idea I've seen for a fundraiser in a long time. I really hope I can make it to this. I might even have to borrow this idea for the west end!
